Quinta do Lago is a luxury 2,000 estate located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Algarvian town of Almancil. Home to some of the most expensive real estate in Europe, the resort is considered one of the top resorts in Europe. Holiday makers rub shoulders with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Madonna, Princess Caroline and the Beckhams.
The resort is made up of luxury private villas and a selection of upmarket resorts dotted around a large lake. With it’s meticulous landscaping, large streets and uniformed gardeners, it is reminiscent of an upmarket Beverly Hills estate. A holiday villa here can set you back anything from €4000 – €15,000 per week in high season. Those not on a champagne budget can rent an apartment in one of the many resorts (Encosta do Lago, Four Seasons Country Club) for under €2,000 per week for a two bed apartment sleeping 4 – 6.
Golf is the sport of choice for holidaymakers here; there are three championship courses within Quinta do Lago and a further five within 10km. Tennis is also catered for at the renowned Jackie Stewart Tennis Academy.
There is a huge range of waters sports on offer at the beach or lake. Qualified instructors offer lessons in everything from kayaking to wind-surfing. For those that prefer a more laid back holiday; sun-beds and umbrellas can be hired at the beach. The beach which is accessed via a wooden bridge across the Ria Formosa gets very busy in high season during the weekends so get there early.
Most of the restaurants and shops are located within the Quinta Shopping Plaza. Unsurprisingly most of the shops are designer with the likes of La Perla, Hugo Boss and MaxMara having shops here. All gastronomic tastes and budgets are catered to from casual to fine dining. Within the centre there are Italian, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine on offer.
Quinta do Lago resort is located just 20 minutes from Faro International Airport and is under three hours flying time from most European cities. The capital city of Lisbon is just 297 kilometres away.
